Data centers are the backbone of the AI revolution, processing vast amounts of data with minimal latency. As AI evolves, GPUs now require three times more power than traditional systems, presenting significant opportunities for power semiconductors to deliver denser, more sustainable solutions. To meet this demand, we must generate more power from sustainable sources. The IEA reports that data centers currently consume 1-2% of global power, likely doubling to 3-4% in five years. They also face challenges in converting electrical energy and adjusting voltage from the 13,800VAC grid to GPUs operating at ~1V.Next-gen data centers are adopting SiC and GaN devices, but Menlo Micro’s MEMS-based Ideal Switch offers a disruptive solution. Its ultra-conductive properties optimize thermal management, providing high power density in a compact form, minimizing the need for complex heat sinks, and supporting the sustainable growth of AI.
