High Power Density Power Module with Flexible Connector Concept for Automotive Traction Inverters

08.05.2025

Referent: Christian Lautensack, Chief Expert, Robert Bosch

bosch

In this talk, we present Bosch’s innovative 6th generation power module platform PM6, which offers a product that was designed to provide an optimum solution for automotive traction inverters. The module is designed for soldering to both open pin-fin coolers or closed strip-fin coolers, and depending on required performance, both aluminum and copper coolers can be used. Putting three modules next to each other yields a very compact B6 bridge. The module allows scaling over the number of parallel chips and chip size and is offered in both 750V and 1200V voltage class. The module concept leads to nicely balanced electrical and thermal load on the semiconductors, resulting in low tolerances within a single switch. In our talk, we analyze the customer-relevant technical KPIs, e.g., box volume, inverter scaling effort, and performance of the PM6 platform, and position the PM6 in the overall Bosch power module portfolio.
