Miniaturization of Power Electronics - Achieving Outstanding Power Density for Automotive Inverters

10.06.2026

Referent: Benedict Pflaum, Head of Product Management, Robert Bosch

The shift towards electrification demands increasingly sophisticated power electronics, with the inverter as a decisive component. The "Compact Inverter" project is redefining automotive power electronics. We aim to achieve exceptional power density within a remarkably small box volume for both 400V and 800V systems. This design integrates all essential functions within an incredibly compact mounting space.

We will explore the project's evolution, from concept evaluation to proof-of-concept. The presentation will highlight key design innovations that enable many advancements: e.g. reduced PCB area, an innovative cooler concept including novel ASIC cooling, usage of cutting-edge SiC technology, highly integrated power supply, a multi-purpose EMC filter, and optimized interface management.

The compact inverter achieves industry-leading power density and exceptional electrical power output.
