Sustainability in focus – Our contribution to a green future

Sustainability is a matter close to our hearts – in everything we do. Whether it's trade fairs, conferences, or year-round formats, we design our offerings with responsibility and foresight. Discover what we are already achieving and how you, as part of the PCIM community, can contribute to a green and fair future.

Our motivation

Power electronics is the key to a sustainable future. In the PCIM – Hub for Power Electronics, innovations are created that make this future possible. Equally important to us is our effort to shape the platforms where these developments take place in a responsible way.

Sustainability as a strategic responsibility

Sustainability is firmly anchored in our corporate strategy. As part of Mesago and the Messe Frankfurt Group, we take ecological, social, and economic responsibility – both today and with a view to tomorrow. Step by step, and through annual evaluations, we are developing goals and measures within our sustainability strategy that will bring us closer to a sustainable future in the event industry.

Our measures for a sustainable PCIM Expo & Conference

The PCIM Expo & Conference is the heart of the PCIM – Hub for Power Electronics and our most powerful lever in achieving greater sustainability. Our goal is to conduct future-oriented events that combine ecological responsibility with technological progress.

Our sustainability strategy for the PCIM Expo & Conference currently focuses on two key areas:

  • Resources & waste: We are always working to reduce the resource consumption of our events by using sustainable materials, minimizing waste, and raising awareness among all participants.
  • Mobility: We promote climate-friendly travel to and from our events and are expanding on ways to offset our unavoidable emissions – always following the principle “avoid, reduce, compensate”. In 2025, nearly 30% of surveyed visitors traveled to Nuremberg by train or public transport.

Below you will find all the measures we are taking to make the event more sustainable.

We promote climate-friendly mobility

We promote climate-friendly mobility

To sustainably improve the CO₂ footprint of the PCIM Expo & Conference, we rely on a holistic mobility concept. Our measures for environmentally friendly travel to the event include:

  • DB event offers for discounted, climate-friendly train travel
  • Public transport combo tickets for exhibitors, enabling free travel to and from the exhibition grounds
  • Targeted mobility surveys among participants to ensure continuous optimization
We design booth construction sustainably

We design booth construction sustainably

Responsible resource management begins with booth construction. The system-based booths available for rent allow for modular construction and are continuously reviewed with regard to their sustainable materials and reusability. Since 2024, we have been using recyclable carpets (Eco Rips) in our standard flooring and have eliminated foil printing.

Our own booths also set benchmarks for green booth construction:

  • Carpet installation only where absolutely necessary
  • 63% of fabric banners used have been stored for reuse
  • No foil printing
We choose giveaways responsibly

We choose giveaways responsibly

All our giveaways come from sustainable production, are planned in sensible quantities, and are carefully selected. These include:

  • Fairly produced PCIM socks certified to GOTS standards
  • Regional apples from Franconia
  • Water bottles made from 90% recycled stainless steel, supported by amfori.org
We digitalize our communication

We digitalize our communication

Our communication at the trade fair is increasingly digital. With the PCIM event app, QR codes, and digital signage graphics, we are deliberately reducing the use of printed materials.

We serve regional and climate-friendly food

We serve regional and climate-friendly food

Our catering follows a thoughtful sustainability concept:

  • Exclusively regional and seasonal dishes from the Franconia region to reduce our CO₂ footprint
  • A continuously growing range of vegetarian and vegan options
  • Careful quantity planning to avoid overproduction
  • Use of reusable dishes and cups

Tips on sustainable event participation

Sustainability is a collaborative process – and every contribution matters. That’s why we want to offer you, as an exhibitor or participant, simple and practical ways to support resource conservation and CO₂ reduction before, during, and after the event.

For exhibitors

The Sustainability Guide for Exhibitors offers useful insights and practical tips to help you design your exhibition participation sustainably.

Even in the preparation phase, important steps toward greater sustainability can be taken:

  • Plan climate-friendly travel: Use a DB event ticket or public transport, or organize carpools. Electric vehicles can be charged at the 84 charging stations on the exhibition grounds.
  • Choose accommodation consciously: Choose a hotel that is certified as sustainable (e.g. GreenSign, Green Key, Green Globe).
  • Design your booth sustainably: Opt for modular construction, avoid digital printing where possible, and leave out references to years on printed materials to allow for reuse.
  • Rethink print products: Avoid printed materials where possible. If needed, use certified paper (e.g. FSC, Blue Angel).
  • Choose promotional items wisely: Focus on durable, useful giveaways with ecological or social value.
  • Plan booth catering responsibly: Choose regional, seasonal, and vegan/vegetarian options in appropriate quantities. Use reusable dishes.
  • Plan efficiently: Did you know that a single trade fair visit can replace an average of five business trips? This was confirmed by a recent study by the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA). Make full use of this potential by planning your presence in detail and inviting your customers and prospects in advance.

Even small decisions during the event can have a big impact:

  • Stay mobile sustainably: Use public transport or carpool to get to the event.
  • Plan staff fairly: Ensure reasonable working hours for your booth team.
  • Raise staff awareness: Inform your team about sustainable behavior and your company’s values.
  • Prioritize regional service providers: Support local suppliers and short transport routes.
  • Use digital tickets: Show your event ticket digitally – it saves paper. If you have a printed ticket, reuse your lanyard.

The responsible handling of remaining materials is key once the event has ended:

  • Dispose of materials properly: Ensure proper separation for better recycling.
  • Check for recycling and reuse: Consider which materials can be reused or passed on.
  • Use storage: Keep booth modules, graphics, and other elements for future events.
  • Analyze your footprint: Evaluate the environmental impact of your trade fair presence and identify potential for greater sustainability.

For participants

Even in the preparation phase, important steps toward greater sustainability can be taken:

  • Plan climate-friendly travel: Use a DB event ticket or public transport, or organize carpools. Electric vehicles can be charged at the 84 charging stations on the exhibition grounds.
  • Choose sustainable accommodation: Look for sustainability labels like GreenSign, Green Key, or Green Globe when booking your hotel.
  • Plan efficiently: Did you know that a single trade fair visit can replace an average of five business trips? This was confirmed by a recent study by the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA). Make the most of this potential by planning your visit in advance to ensure you use your time on site effectively.

Even small decisions during the event can have a big impact:

  • Use public transport or carpool for your travel to the fair.
  • Show your ticket digitally – it saves paper and is always accessible. If you have a printed ticket, reuse your lanyard.
  • Avoid waste: Reduce the amount of trash you generate and separate waste properly.
  • Choose sustainable food: Opt for regional, seasonal, and preferably plant-based meals.
  • Accept responsibly: Only take giveaways you truly need. Choose durable and useful items, and avoid disposable products.
