Implementation of a Power Gyrator for Electric Vehicle Chargers

11 Jun 2026

Speaker: Luis Ruiz Chamorro, PhD Student, Polytechnic University of Madrid

This paper presents a high-frequency isolated DC–DC converter based on the gyrator principle for electric vehicle charging applications. The proposed topology exhibits inherent current-source behavior and can also operate as a voltage source at a different operating frequency using the same hardware. The functionality is realized through a resonant network based on a low-coupling E-core transformer.A 10 kW, 50 kHz prototype achieves 96% efficiency while delivering nearly constant output current.
