As electric vehicles push toward 800V architectures and increasingly stringent functional safety requirements, the Battery Disconnect Unit (BDU) has emerged as a critical node in the high-voltage system. Conventional mechanical contactors are falling short of modern demands for more efficient, safer, and more compact high-power systems in EVs. Silicon carbide technology is emerging as a better alternative transforming the BDU architecture entirely.
This presentation explores how SiC-based solid-state switching technology addresses the fundamental limitations of conventional BDU designs, delivering measurable system-level advantages across safety, efficiency, and reliability.
